  1. Looking at this post and the list after an extended amount of time I still feel the term "naturalistic existentialist" describes Edward Abbey and the theme he presents in _Desert Solitaire_. The work seemed to convey the idea that nature is about experiencing the natural environment. Although Abbey touches on the topics of politics and tourists and institutions, he is an advocate for just living as the natural world would intend.

    I think any word that describes a self centered, very proud, and thinking he is gods gift to nature would describe him perfectly. It is sad that we have so much bad stuff to say about him as a person, and yet we still appreciate his book as a good example of environmental literature. But then again, there were some parts that he didnt act like a pompous jerk. :)
